The Cup of Coffee I Didn’t Rush Through

This morning, I didn’t rush my coffee.

Nothing about the morning was different. The kids were still up early. There were still things to do. The day was already waiting for me.

But instead of standing at the counter, half-drinking it between tasks, I sat down. Just for a minute.

I held the cup while it was still warm. Noticed the quiet before everything picked up. Let myself be there instead of already moving on.

It felt unfamiliar at first. Life I was behind on something. Like I should be doing more, or rushing to the next check box on my to-do list.

But nothing actually fell apart. The morning still moved forward. The kids still needed me. The day still unfolded.

I just entered it differently. Not rushed. Not already depleted. Just… there. It wasn’t a big change. But it felt like one.

And I think that’s how this begins. Not with more time. Not with a perfect routine. Just a small decision to stay for a moment longer than you normally would.

And a fresh cup of coffee meant to intentionally be enjoyed in that state sure does taste better.
